Comedian (and we use the term lightly) Amy Schumer, who along with her cousin Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., agitates for gun control, used her first time hosting Saturday Night Live as an opportunity to spread her message. The “Guns” sketch lampooned the prevalence of firearms in American society by showing people wielding them during everyday activities.
Aside from the fact that the routine wasn’t particularly funny or satirically effective, it betrayed something about how a large segment of the anti-gun left feels these days. The slogan employed in the sketch—“Guns: We’re Here To Stay”—betrays the bitterness of anti-gunners in the face of more and more Second Amendment victories. Losing hope of advancing their agenda, they increasingly resort to lashing out against American culture and demonizing gun owners. It’s the psychology of a side that knows it is losing, and just can’t cope with the fact that the rest of the country seems to be moving on without them.
