Lectures From On High

From the best-protected human being on the face of the Earth, it’s appalling to hear your own self-defense talked about as if it were a merely private taste: “… their Second Amendment rights as they understood them.” Yet this is precisely what President Obama said on Saturday of his visit to Oregon the preceding day.

But this bent interpretation of the Constitution was only the beginning: “It’s not just mass shootings, it is the daily shootings that take place in cities across America. It is easier to buy a gun than buy a book,” Obama said, referring—we can only guess—to a lack of Barnes & Noble locations in low-income communities.

Never mind gang-fueled drug turf wars. Just ignore black markets. Forget about felons on serial catch-and-release. The president and his acolytes apparently believe murderers and other violent criminals are choosing armed mayhem over Little Women. Wow!

A presidential change of serious import can hardly come too soon.
