Anti-Gun Legislators Prepare New Background Check Bill

posted on October 8, 2015

Although the provision allowing retailers to sell a firearm if the background check has not been completed in three days is an intentional check against governmental abuse, anti-gun pundits and politicians continue to label it as a “loophole.” They’ve accordingly tried any number of tactics to remove the three-day provision. Now prominent Senate Democrats are prepared to introduce federal legislation in pursuit of this goal, according to The Hill.

“Sen. (Richard) Blumenthal and I are going to join together to introduce what we think is a modest measure to just assure that no guns get sold to people who can’t pass a background check,” announced Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn. In truth, a more “modest” measure would put the burden on the FBI to actually conduct background checks in a timely fashion.
