NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo To Join Hillary Clinton Onstage At Brady Campaign Gala

posted on November 17, 2015

In late October, The New York Times reported that, just after the high-profile shooting of one of Cuomo’s aides, the Brady Campaign reached out to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has since promised to lend more publicity to the group. True to his word, on Thursday, when Hillary Clinton takes the stage to receive the inaugural Mario M. Cuomo Visionary Award at the group’s annual Bear Awards Gala, Cuomo will be in attendance to introduce her.

The decision to name the award after Cuomo’s father—who was far more well known for his economic policy and stances on the death penalty and abortion than gun control—seems a calculated response to the younger Cuomo’s commitment to help Brady remain relevant.

The new award came just weeks after Andrew Cuomo’s announcement, and according to the New York Daily News, the Brady Campaign has not commented on why the award was named as such.
