New Sheriff Means Hope For San Francisco Gun Owners

San Francisco County Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, who notoriously refused to issue a single concealed-carry permit during the entirety of his time in office, has suffered a landslide defeat in his re-election bid. His exit means that area gun owners are seeing a glimmer of hope.

Former Chief Deputy Sheriff Vicki Hennessy, who will take over for Mirkarimi, has been quiet about her stance on guns but has been endorsed by notable gun-haters such as U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and California Attorney General Kamala Harris. But it would not take much for her to be less extreme than her predecessor, and gun-rights groups are appealing to her respect for the Constitution.

“The Calguns Foundation will be reaching out to Sheriff-elect Vicki Hennessy to formally request that she respect Second Amendment civil rights as much as any other fundamental right she likes,” said Calguns President Brandon Combs.
