UC Merced Hero Wishes He Had Carried A Gun

Contractor Byron Price was finishing up a construction job on the UC Merced campus when he heard a commotion coming from a classroom Wednesday morning. Thinking it was a fistfight, he entered the classroom to break it up, unknowingly inserting himself into a stabbing rampage that left four people wounded, including himself. After he entered the room, the suspect attacked Price with a butcher knife, stabbing him near the waistline.

Price managed to kick the assailant in the head, causing the hooded man to flee. Two campus police officers then chased the suspect and shot him on a nearby pedestrian bridge. Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke labeled Price a hero for disrupting the attack and probably saving lives.

In retrospect, if Price could have done one thing differently, what would it have been? As he recently told CBS 47, he would have wanted to have a concealed firearm in that situation.
