Armed Friends Save Elderly Man From Knife-Wielding Attacker

In Gwinnett County, Ga., two friends saved the victim of a savage attack. Karen Duncan was walking to the house belonging to her friend Ron Childress when she heard the voice of a man calling for help. She rang the doorbell and alerted Childress, then went looking for the victim—carrying a firearm in her purse.

Duncan found a roughly 90-year-old man on the ground being stabbed by a younger assailant. She drew her gun and informed the suspect that she would shoot him unless he stopped, causing him to drop the knife. Childress arrived soon afterward with his own firearm and held the suspect at gunpoint.

“You cannot protect everyone; police can’t do it …” said Childress of the man he and Duncan saved. “… [y]ou need to be ready to protect yourself and others because what happened yesterday is a perfect example of how a citizen can protect other citizens.”
