Scooter Salesman Shoots At Attackers

A man was ambushed and pistol-whipped by two men pretending to be prospective buyers of his Hoverboard electric scooters in a Bellflower, Calif., supermarket parking lot Sunday night. The victim arranged to meet the two supposed buyers, whom he did not know, to sell them the Hoverboards. One of the two suspects pistol-whipped the back of the victim’s head while he was speaking with the other suspect, who then also pointed a handgun at him. The victim, an armed off-duty security guard, pulled out his own handgun and fired at both would-robbers.

“Shots were fired (by both men) and one suspect was shot in the neck,” said Lt. Matthew Vander Horck of the sheriff’s Lakewood station. Police responded to the scene and took the 18-year-old wounded suspect into custody. The second suspect, who pistol-whipped the victim, fled the scene in a dark sedan after picking up his accomplice’s handgun. The perpetrator and victim were both transported to a nearby hospital.

Pro-Freedom Doctor Addresses CDC Gun Research

Past America’s 1st Freedom contributor Dr. Timothy Wheeler’s blog post yesterday on The Hill firmly set the record straight on anti-gun activism at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In a piece titled “Why Congress Stopped Gun Control Activism at the CDC,” Wheeler, director of Doctors For Responsible Gun Ownership, wrote that renewed congressional calls for CDC “studies” overlook the fact that “mountains of firearm research” has been done since the ban.

Wheeler also reminds readers how the grossly anti-gun attitudes of CDC leaders prompted Congress to pass the ban. As Wheeler pointed out, the full committee report for the 1997 appropriations bill contained “a limitation to prohibit the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control from engaging in any activities to advocate or promote gun control.” Further, the committee warned CDC officials that it “does not believe that it is the role of the CDC to advocate or promote policies to advance gun control initiatives, or to discourage responsible private gun ownership.”

Motor City’s Top Cop Encourages Armed Citizenry

While many anti-gunners say law-abiding Americans carrying concealed firearms doesn’t make communities safer, many beg to differ—including Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

In fact, the Motor City’s top cop believes terrorists would be hesitant to target his city for that very reason—that armed citizens would fight back. “If you’re a terrorist or a carjacker, you want unarmed citizens,” said Craig. “A lot of Detroiters have CPLs [concealed pistol licenses].”

In Detroit last year, 1,169 handgun permits were issued and more than 8,000 guns were registered with the police department. All told, more than 30,000 city residents are legally armed.

“If you look at what happened in Paris, I’m not saying if more citizens had had guns it would have stopped the terrorists,” Craig continued. “But it sure might have helped.”

Op-Ed Says Obama Administration Is Arming Terrorists

While anti-gun forces continue to make the disingenuous claim that the NRA is “arming the terrorists” by upholding due process for Americans whose names have appeared on FBI watch lists, a new editorial on The Hill points out that the Obama administration is not just wrong, but hypocritical to point the finger at Second Amendment advocates.

Operation Fast and Furious involved intentionally funneling illegal arms to Mexico in an attempt to expose trafficking networks. The Obama administration has been keen to suppress details about this operation, which had the effect of arming criminals whose methods in many respects mirror those of ISIS. For all the talk about “arming the terrorists,” it appears that the only ones who have done so here operate from within the highest circles of our government.

NY SAFE Act Sponsor Guilty On Corruption Charges

The anti-gun faction in American politics likes to present its efforts as acts of outraged conscience, but stories like this expose how hollow their claims of morality are. Former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, frequent gun-control promoter and sponsor of the NY SAFE Act, was found guilty of seven charges of federal corruption and graft. He had illegally appropriated more than $4 million since 2000.

Silver’s conviction has the potential to damage the reputation of his long-time ally Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has recently intensified his anti-gun campaign and has appeared in public cooperating with Hillary Clinton on gun control. His office released a statement applauding the ruling, in an apparent attempt to distance himself from Silver’s legacy.

Al Sharpton, Spike Lee Promote National “Gun Violence Awareness Month”

Rev. Al Sharpton has called for establishing a “national gun violence awareness month,” and his political allies in Congress, New York Democrats Charles Rangel and Hakeem Jeffries, have pledged to introduce a congressional resolution authorizing the gesture.

Meanwhile, film director and recent Sharpton ally Spike Lee has organized a “march against gun violence,” according to the tabloid New York Daily News, conveniently timed to coincide with the premiere of his new movie, “Chi-Raq,” which blames the criminal violence in Chicago—which has some of the strictest “gun control” in the United States—on the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Thankfully, we can all rest assured that for Lee’s “march against gun violence” and for Sharpton’s and Rangel’s “gun violence awareness month,” murderers, robbers and rapists will all undoubtedly lay down their arms, braid daisies into their hair in solidarity, and join hands to sing “Kumbaya.” Or—maybe not.
