Apparently seeking to breathe life into his moribund campaign—he’s now supported by only about 5 percent of Democrats—O’Malley laced into Sanders and Clinton for not voting often enough, or loudly enough, or consistently enough, against the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
Clinton deflected criticism by directing her own criticism at Sanders, who in turn bragged that he’d supported banning “automatic weapons [sic]” as far back as the late 1980s, and snapped, “Do not tell me that I have not shown courage in standing up to the gun people.”
Obama Continues Work On Executive Actions
President Obama met last week with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg—just as he has met with other members of the gun-ban lobby in recent weeks—while his Justice Department finalized recommendations on how Obama can sidestep Congress to impose new gun control through executive actions likely to pass judicial review, CNN reported.
Reports suggest those executive actions could be aimed at expanding background checks at gun shows and banning firearm purchases to those named on secret government watch lists—and note that Obama is expected to review the recommendations in “weeks, not months.”
Gun control is “probably the issue that has touched him most personally over the course of his presidency,” White House communications director Jen Psaki told Bloomberg News, adding that Obama “will not be satisfied” without additional action before the end of his presidency.
Armed Employee Halts Robbery And Assault
Two masked armed robbers—a man and a woman—broke into a Las Vegas doctor’s office Wednesday evening, where they forced a doctor, a patient and an employee into a room, pistol-whipped the doctor and began ransacking the business, the Las Vegas Sunreported.
According to police, the armed man demanded money and possibly drugs before a clinic employee went to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, confronted the suspects in the parking lot and fired multiple shots at one of the robbers, who later died.
Las Vegas police are still searching for the male suspect.
