A Northbridge, Mass., man had his own “Atticus Finch” moment when he defended his family against a rabid fox that had attacked his son in a shed and proceeded to chase his wife. Dana Stanley heard the commotion and called 911, explaining to dispatchers that he would soon be firing a gun in a residential area. As he spoke on the phone, the fox charged him and was fatally shot. Lab testing confirmed that the animal had rabies, and it had been sighted attacking local pets since the day before.
