Mississippi Parks Ban Guns In Defiance Of State Law

posted on April 30, 2015

The state of Mississippi has recognized the right of individuals to carry guns in public parks since 2010, but that isn’t stopping some localities from setting their own policy. The Pat Harrison Waterway District, which is owned by the state and administers several parks, has prohibited guns on its premises for several years.

Waterway District Parks Director Allen Wright explains: “Right now, it’s policy that weapons aren’t allowed in the parks. To allow someone to carry one on their hip and walk around the park with it, no, that’s just a recipe for disaster, in my opinion.” Good thing for Wright that he’s allowed to ignore the law if he has a really strong opinion about it.
