Homeowner Wounds Suspect In Memphis

A Memphis, Tenn., resident was rudely awakened on Wednesday to the sight of a stranger in his home. With the rest of his family asleep and vulnerable, the homeowner quickly retrieved a firearm and shot the alleged burglar. The suspect was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and police filed no charges against the homeowner.

Neighbors reported surprise that someone would try to rob the home, since it faces a busy street. Yet what is especially notable about the incident is that it does not stand alone. This is the second occasion in Memphis just this week in which the victim of a robbery fought back and turned the tables on an attacker by using a firearm. Memphis residents are tired of being victims, and perhaps a pattern is beginning to emerge.
