Florida: Free To Flee With Your Guns

posted on May 23, 2015

Florida gun owners who are forced to flee from a hurricane will soon be free to take their firearms with them. On Thursday, Gov. Rick Scott signed SB 290 into law—which allows evacuees to carry concealed firearms on their body or in their car during states of emergency without a permit to do so.

NRA Past President Marion Hammer was instrumental in getting this bill passed as she urged NRA members to email their legislators. “When you’re ordered under a mandatory evacuation to take your family, pets and important documents and leave your home and other belongings behind, you should not be deprived of the ability to protect yourself and your family,” Hammer wrote.

Thanks to Hammer, Gov. Scott and everyone involved in getting this important legislation passed. The new law goes into effect July 1.
