Did They Even Read It?

In this recent article, Huffington Post Canada proves it’s not above ignoring facts in favor of pushing gun-control ideals.

Writing against Bill C-42, HuffPoC attempts to build the case that C-42 and other recent gun laws could increase violence. Yet actually, while gun-control laws have been “whittled down,” crime in Canada has steadily dropped. Between 2012, when the long-gun registry expired, to 2013, homicide fell 8 percent to the lowest since 1966; firearm-related homicides fell to the lowest ever recorded.

From 2012 to 2013, only 131 Canadians were killed by firearms of any kind. While even one homicide is too many, Canadians are more likely to be stabbed than shot—40 percent of homicides in that time period were stabbings.

Not that any of this isn’t a completely moot point—Bill C-42’s purpose is to streamline paperwork and will in no way loosen restrictions on who can own guns.
