Congress Votes To Stop Operation Choke Point

posted on June 6, 2015

The U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation Wednesday that would block funding for Operation Choke Point, a scheme whereby the Justice Department and FDIC pressured financial institutions to cut off credit and banking services to lawful firearms dealers and other so-called "high-risk" industries blacklisted by the Obama administration.

“While I had hoped that the unprecedented Operation Choke Point would have been far behind us by now, it was once again necessary to offer an amendment to the annual Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations legislation to prohibit funding for it,” said Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., who sponsored the amendment.

Next the appropriations bill—along with the amendment barring funding for Operation Choke Point—must clear the U.S. Senate.
