According to the family of Kathryn Steinle, who was murdered July 1 by an illegal immigrant and convicted felon in the “sanctuary” city of San Francisco, no one in the Barack Obama administration has been in contact with them about the murder. “We have not heard a word … I wish somebody would reach out to us,” Kathryn’s brother, Brian, told Fox News' Megyn Kelly.
When Rep. Steve Chabot asked Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson why Obama hadn’t reached out to the Steinles, Johnson replied, “To who?” After Chabot clarified, Johnson said, “I don’t know the answer to that question,” but promised to check. However, the Steinles are reportedly still waiting—leading us to wonder whether Obama cares more about convicted drug users than murder victims in “sanctuary” cities.
Armed Citizen Stops Home Invasion In Arkansas
An Arkansas man armed with a handgun used it to save himself and a woman during a home invasion in Faulkner County, Ark., last week.
According to police, the 42-year-old female homeowner told police she was sleeping when someone broke out a bedroom window and entered the home. The assailant reportedly shoved her on the bed and picked up a shotgun that was in the corner of the room.
The intruder then went to the living room and put a knife to the throat of a 70-year-old man who was sleeping on the couch before heading back to the bedroom. That’s when the senior citizen grabbed his handgun, went to the bedroom and fired one shot at the suspect, who was arrested later while seeking treatment for a gunshot wound at a nearby emergency room.
British Press Notes Shift In African-American Views On Guns
The British press generally confines itself to one screed after another when discussing Second Amendment issues “across the pond” in America, so we were interested to come across a Reuters nugget in The Daily Mail.
Headlined “African Americans Still Favor Gun Control, But Views Are Shifting,” the story made some thoroughly constructive references. One featured our own Colion Noir: “The image of black gun ownership has been hijacked and vilified by an anti-gun mainstream media.” No kidding and, as usual, well said, though it seems virtually all gun ownership is still being painted with this same broad and patently untrue brush.
More interesting still is the story’s citing of a December Pew poll that showed a 14 percent drop in African-American support for gun control since 1993. Now that’s progress.
An Armed Populace Is A Safer Populace
We’ll say this for President Barack Obama: He’s been a heck of a salesman. With his administration and other anti-gunners continuing to attack our Second Amendment rights, Americans have responded by heading to their local gun stores and by acquiring carry permits.
Since 2007, the number of concealed handgun permits has jumped from 4.6 million to 11.1 million today—a 146 percent increase. At the same time, violent crime rates have dropped by 22 percent.
That’s no accident, says John R. Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center. “When you allow people to carry concealed handguns, you see changes in the behavior of criminals,” he points out. Lott also declares that the violent crime drop is directly related to the percentage of the population with permits.
More guns, less crime is not a theory that Obama and his like-minded cronies would ever ascribe to, yet the facts bear it out time and again.
Cabela’s Targeted By Bloomberg’s Everytown For Gun Safety
Bloomberg-funded groups Everytown and Moms Demand Action are targeting Cabela’s, pushing the national retailer to halt the sale of guns in cases where the National Instant Criminal Background Check System delay status is unresolved after the federally mandated three-day period.
In truth, Bloomberg and his minions are simply trying to bully a law-abiding business that is already following federal law. The “Instant” part of NICS was instituted so law-abiding gun purchasers don’t have to wait to make their purchase, and the FBI has the responsibility to turn background checks around in a timely manner. Likewise, law-abiding citizens have the right to buy a gun without undue interference from government.
Per the FBI website, “The Federal Firearms Licensee is not prohibited from transferring the firearm after three business days have passed.” Since Cabela’s is simply following federal law, the company doesn’t deserve harassment for doing so from the likes of the elitist Michael Bloomberg.
San Francisco Supervisor Pushes For Videotaped Gun Sales
A proposal in San Francisco would require that all firearm and ammunition sales in the city be videotaped. The gun control package, put forward by Supervisor Mark Farrell, also stipulates that all spaces in which firearms are stored or carried must be under video surveillance, and that ammunition retailers should retain records for five years and transmit data to the San Francisco Police Department on a weekly basis.
The National Rifle Association released the following statement in response to Farrell’s onerous proposal: “In California, firearm dealers already fingerprint and ID every person to whom they sell a gun. Forcing gun stores to provide videotapes of all lawful firearm transactions to the local police department will only serve to harass and deter law-abiding citizens from exercising their constitutional right to self-protection. Additionally, it creates an unnecessary burden on the police department that could detract from real law-enforcement priorities.”
