Sheriff’s Department Goes Full-time On Concealed Carry

In conjunction with a plan to arm all his certified deputies with backup weapons they can carry concealed, DeKalb County (Ga.) Sheriff Jimmy Harris said, “A deputy sheriff is never off-duty.” An admirable candor, we submit.

Harris told AL.com, “We’re too much of a target, and we need to prepare for anything that happens.” In his statement, Sheriff Harris acknowledged that Chattanooga—the site of an attack that cost four Marines and a sailor their lives—is only 35 miles from the DeKalb County line.

Also interesting to note is that his cautionary remarks were not limited to law enforcement or the military. “I ask each and every one of you to take a look at how you are prepared to protect yourself,” he said. “If you are not prepared, it is time that you get self-defense training or firearms training.”
