Violent Offenders Poised To Hit The Streets This Fall?

posted on July 24, 2015

As illustrated by NRA News Cam & Co.’s Deal of the Day, much of the gun crime that anti-gunners blame on availability of firearms is actually the product of a broken criminal justice system. And things could get worse in November. Thousands of federal inmates are scheduled for early release under new guidelines for drug offenders issued by the U.S. Sentencing Commission. The stated intention of this reform is to lower penalties for non-violent drug users—but some legislators are worried that violent offenders might be included in the amnesty.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley have sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, asking for details on the records of the inmates slated for early release. They have expressed concerns that by “lowering the baseline” for some offenders, dangerous criminals will be on the streets before their time—and ready to spread more mayhem.
