“If you ask me where has been the one area that I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied, it is the fact that the United States is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient, common-sense gun safety laws,” he said. He then compared U.S. deaths due to “gun violence” to deaths due to terrorism since 9/11, suggesting that violent crime was increasing—when in reality, it has fallen to the lowest levels in nearly 40 years.
Pelosi Blames Gun Laws For Murder By Man Deported Five Times
Never one to miss a chance to call for more restrictive gun control, U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is blaming lax gun laws for the murder of a San Francisco woman by a seven-time convicted felon, who had been deported five times and used a gun stolen from a federal agent to commit the murder.
Pelosi denies that San Francisco’s “sanctuary city” status—meaning the city simply ignores federal immigration laws—had anything to do with the murder. “What we also have to look at is, how did this person come into possession of a gun in a state where his having a gun as a convicted felon would raise serious questions,” Pelosi said Thursday.
Actually, Pelosi knows that possession of a gun by a felon is illegal throughout the nation, and she likely knows the gun used in this case was stolen. She just doesn’t want to let facts muddle up a good photo opportunity.
Gun Production Doubles Under Obama Administration
On Thursday, President Obama lamented his inability to institute more “common-sense gun safety” laws and vowed to use his last 18 months to push for more gun control. Ironically, and more than a little bit coincidentally, the day before the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) had issued a report indicating that gun manufacturing in the United States has seen a 140-percent spike during the Obama administration.
In response to Obama’s rabid desire to disarm America, citizens afraid of losing their Second Amendment rights have been shopping their favorite gun store and buying while they can. With demand skyrocketing, production has increased from 4.5 million in 2008 to more than 10.8 million in 2013. In other words, the number of firearms produced has more than doubled on Obama’s watch. The more he threatens to use his pen and his phone, the more guns will likely be made and sold.
Kansas Permitless Concealed Carry Less “Permitless” Than Predicted
When Kansas’ permitless concealed-carry law passed in April, it brought anti-gun alarmists out in full force. They claimed it would put people in unnecessary danger, adversely affect the business community and endanger law enforcement, among other dire outcomes.
Not only has that proved untrue, Kansans are still obtaining carry permits at a robust pace, even though they are no longer required to do so. According to Attorney General Derek Schmidt, his office received 9,805 applications for concealed-carry permits for the fiscal year ending June 30—making it the fourth-highest year on record, and bringing the number of permits issued in Kansas to nearly 100,000.
Schmidt credits Kansas’ extensive reciprocity agreements for the continued interest in permits. “There are still a number of benefits for Kansans who obtain concealed-carry licenses … Kansas licenses are recognized by 36 other states, most of which still require a permit to carry concealed,” he said.
Armed Man Saves Family In Indianapolis
A woman was at home with her brother and two children in northeast Indianapolis when the father of one of the children kicked in the door. As he attempted to enter the house, the brother shot him once.
The suspect fled to a nearby home and requested assistance, while the shooter pursued him. The alleged offender was taken to a hospital and is in good condition, while the armed citizen is not facing any charges.
While authorities haven’t completely explained the background to this incident, it appears that this man successfully used a firearm to guarantee his family’s safety—a common occurrence throughout the country these days.
