Convenience Store Owner Scares Off Armed Suspects

posted on August 22, 2015

A Lowell, Mass., convenience store owner protected himself and his property by shooting at a pair of armed robbery suspects who held up his business Wednesday. According to police, the robbery occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m., and the owner fired twice at the suspects with “a legally possessed handgun.”

The alleged robbers were described as two men wearing dark-colored hoodies. About an hour after the incident, police spotted a man matching the description. As they approached him, he fled with police pursuing him on foot and dropped a backpack.

“He was eventually taken into custody,’’ police said in a statement. “Inside the backpack was a loaded Tech 9 firearm.” He is charged with several felonies. At this time, it is unclear if the suspects fired any shots or if they stole any cash or merchandise.
