Texas Pawn Shop Owner Shoots Gunman

When two armed robbers walked into Diamond Pawn Shop in northeast Houston Monday shortly after noon and started shooting, the owner, who holds a concealed handgun license, fired back, killing one of the robbers. Two other robbers were arrested after they fled and struck a utility pole with their vehicle. A fourth suspect is still sought by police.

Investigators believe one of the alleged robbers may have committed a carjacking nearby that took place at about the same time as the attempted robbery. In that crime, a motorist was dragged down Jensen Drive as he tried to hold onto his car while the carjacker sped away.

The same pawn shop was robbed in March 2014, when five armed men stole firearms, jewelry and cash from the store, before firing shots as they fled. The more recent case now heads to a Harris County grand jury.
