Protestors Demand Retailer Ban Guns, Which Would Make Stores Less Safe

posted on August 28, 2015

A half-dozen people protested outside a new Mariano’s grocery store in Northbrook, Ill., on Tuesday, with signs warning customers that the new location was unsafe. It wasn’t the food that the picketers took issue with, though—it was their gun policy. Protesters believe that Mariano’s is endangering shoppers’ lives by not banning guns, as the chain does in its other Chicago-area stores with ‘no guns allowed’ signs.

In truth, restricting legal carry by law-abiding citizens would make the store less safe, but evidently businesses are now expected to go above and beyond the law in the locations where they operate. A spokesman for Mariano’s responded accordingly, saying, “Our policy is to follow the law wherever we are.”
