Poll: Support For NRA Outpaces That Of Either Party, All Candidates, Supreme Court

posted on August 5, 2015

Despite a recent uptick in anti-NRA outbursts by the likes of Timothy Simons and Whoopi Goldberg, a survey conducted by NBC News/Wall Street Journal shows that support for NRA among the general public continues to grow.

The poll, which asked respondents to assign positive or negative ratings to nearly 20 organizations and individuals, showed NRA was the second-most highly regarded on the list—beating out every presidential candidate, President Obama, the Supreme Court and both the Democratic and Republican parties. Moreover, in a poll in which more than half the subjects had a higher percentage of negative ratings than positive, NRA supporters maintained a strong 11-point lead over detractors (43 percent to 32 percent).

In a similar NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll from 2013, supporters outnumbered detractors 41-34. The fact that NRA’s approval continues to rise shows that Americans aren’t looking to Hollywood when forming their views on guns—they’re looking at the facts.
