Governor Malloy And Mayor Segarra Shift Blame For Hartford Homicides

posted on August 6, 2015

Hartford, Conn., just recorded its 20th murder of 2015, surpassing the city’s 2014 total with five months to spare.

Fox News reports that Hartford leads all major New England cities in homicides. Hartford’s 2015 homicide pace threatens to eclipse the city’s totals in 2009 (33), 2011 (27) and 2013 (23).

Mayor Pedro Segarra said, “Cities across the country are experiencing spikes in violence … impacted by factors beyond any one city’s control.” One factor Segarra didn’t mention was the draconian gun control regime he, Michael Bloomberg and Gov. Dannel Malloy rammed through in 2013—measures they promised would make Connecticut safer.

Segarra appealed to Gov. Malloy: “There’s a long tradition of Connecticut governors working with cities to reduce crime. We hope to continue that relationship with the current governor.” However, when asked about the spike in murder by the Hartford Courant in July, Malloy ducked: “That’s a better question for the Hartford mayor and the Hartford police chief.”
