Crowd At GOP Debates Jeers At Expanded Background Checks

posted on January 16, 2016

At Thursday’s GOP debates held in North Charleston, S.C., moderator Trish Regan referred to the frequent claim by anti-gunners that most Americans support “universal” background checks. The crowd responded with boos, leading candidate Carly Fiorina to respond, “Not in this room.” She added sarcastically, “We all believe the poll data all the time, don’t we?” Fiorina also discussed her belief that enforcing the existing gun laws would have prevented the mass shooting that occurred in the host city of North Charleston.

The opposite reaction occurred when candidate Mike Huckabee was asked about his opposition to President Obama’s executive orders on gun control. Asked whether he had called the orders “unconstitutional” and “completely insane,” he confirmed his words—and was met by a chorus of cheers.
