Mike Rowe Mocks White House Celebrity Twitter Initiative

posted on January 19, 2016

An email from the White House titled “Artists & Entertainers Unite to #StopGunViolence” and offering social-media-ready talking points in support of President Obama’s current gun-control agenda recently found its way into the inboxes of several Hollywood A-listers.

Mike Rowe, host of Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs,” wasn’t among the recipients, but on Friday he went to Facebook to express why he thought the initiative—and the president’s gun-control plans as a whole—were misguided. Rowe said while he did not oppose background checks on firearms purchases, he’s “skeptical that expanding a broken system is the best way to keep guns away from bad guys and lunatics.” He then asked, “If we don’t have the resources or the commitment to administer and enforce the system we have, why in the world would we want to make it bigger?”

While it’s unlikely the White House will listen, it’s nice to see some reason coming out of Hollywood.
