Rhode Island Bill Calls For Confiscation Of “High-Capacity” Mags

posted on January 23, 2016

A new bill introduced in the Rhode Island House of Representatives would prohibit the manufacture and sale of what it calls “high-capacity” magazines—that is, “… any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than ten (10) rounds …” But the ban of such magazines doesn’t just cover future sales: All magazines holding more than 10 rounds would have to be sold or transported outside the state within 120 days of the law coming into effect.

Failure to comply with the law would bring a severe penalty of up to 10 years in prison. Setting arbitrary limits to magazine size won’t do anything to prevent crime, but it certainly would expose well-meaning gun owners to search and confiscation of their private property, and even serious jail time.

Use Your Power!

Rhode Island voters, legislation like this is meant to intimidate good gun owners. Don’t let it pass! Contact your representative today and ask them to oppose H7199. To find your local representative, click here.
