Washington Post Calls For Age Of Gun Ownership To Be Increased To 25

posted on January 9, 2016

While Second Amendment advocates continue to express displeasure at Obama’s executive actions on gun control, some in the mainstream media feel he didn’t go far enough.

Shortly after the announcement, the Washington Post ran an article co-authored by UCLA law professor Adam Winkler titled, “There’s a simple way to reduce gun violence. Raise the gun age.” The authors claim that because people under 25 are responsible for “a disproportionate amount of America’s gun violence,” and because the brain doesn’t fully mature until 25, that should be the minimum age to purchase or own a firearm.

What the article doesn’t take into account is that untold numbers of gun owners under 25 never use their firearm illegally. Plus, as we’ve pointed out countless times before, those planning to use a gun to commit a crime have no qualms about breaking the law. Chances are, criminals would just buy one on the streets or steal one … much like they do now.
