Cop Killer Was Convicted Violent Felon

The man suspected in the murder of two Palm Springs, Calif., police officers on Saturday was a convicted felon who couldn’t even legally possess a firearm.

According to a report in The Desert Sun, 26-year-old John Hernandez Felix was previous arrested as part of a failed murder plot in 2009, in which he and another man shot and wounded their target. He was charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and association with a criminal street gang.

Felix pleaded down to assault with a firearm and admitted gang connection. He was giving a two-year prison sentence for the assault and two additional years for gang ties.

Felix is the suspect in the killing of officers Jose Gilbert “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny on Saturday afternoon.
