NRA's LaPierre Calls For Change This Election Day

Addressing the audience at the Bakersfield (Calif.) Business Conference on Saturday, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said it is time to take our nation back from elitists who think they know what is best for us.

"America is no longer a government of the people by the people,” LaPierre said. “It has over time, more and more, become a government of the elites by the elites. Our morning in America has become the winter of America’s discontent.”

Fortunately, Americans are standing up for freedom—and NRA stands with them.

“What I love about the NRA is, it’s an organization that stands on principle, it’s unafraid to speak the truth and it is unflinching in the fight for all that is good and right in America,” LaPierre said.

Cop Killer Was Convicted Violent Felon

The man suspected in the murder of two Palm Springs, Calif., police officers on Saturday was a convicted felon who couldn’t even legally possess a firearm.

According to a report in The Desert Sun, 26-year-old John Hernandez Felix was previous arrested as part of a failed murder plot in 2009, in which he and another man shot and wounded their target. He was charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and association with a criminal street gang.

Felix pleaded down to assault with a firearm and admitted gang connection. He was giving a two-year prison sentence for the assault and two additional years for gang ties.

Felix is the suspect in the killing of officers Jose Gilbert “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny on Saturday afternoon.

Concealed Carry Permit Holder Stops Mugger

A concealed carry permit holder in Washington state used his firearm on Friday to save himself and a companion from an armed assailant.

According to local media, 26-year-old Terry Webb was attempting to rob two people at gunpoint on a Tacoma, Wash., street. One of the victims, however, was legally carrying a concealed handgun, and used it to shoot the robber, ending the episode.

Webb was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Neither of the victims were injured.
