California Lt. Governor: Trump A “Leap Backward” On Guns

posted on December 14, 2016

California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, whose latest gun control legislation consisted of requiring background checks to buy ammunition, is concerned about the effect a pro-gun president will have on his anti-gun state.

After Donald Trump endorsed national Right-to-Carry reciprocity, Newsom took to Twitter to complain that “this expansion would put lives at risk & is a giant leap backward for states that have proven smart gun laws work.”

If by “smart gun laws” working, he means keeping guns out of the hands of the law-abiding and only in the hands of criminals … then yes, they’re working, alright. FBI statistics show violent crime increased in California more than 2.5 times faster than the nation as a whole.

Newsom’s tweet linked to an anti-Trump opinion piece from the Los Angeles Times. As one reader commented: “It seems like Gavin is upset that he won't be able to trample the rights of gun owners in California after Trump gets in office.”
