Chicago Largely Responsible For Murder Spike In Biggest U.S. Cities

posted on December 22, 2016

Once the final figures are tallied, the average murder rate for America’s 30 largest cities is expected to spike by 14 percent in 2016, The Washington Post reports, with homicides in Chicago alone accounting for about 44 percent of the increase. The Windy City is currently on track to exceed 750 killings this year—up from 481 last year—and more than 3,400 shootings, making 2016 the deadliest year in Chicago in almost 20 years.

Some other large cities, including Los Angeles and Memphis, have seen their murder rates increase, though none so dramatically as Chicago. Meanwhile, homicides have dropped slightly year-over-year in New York City, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.—which makes Chicago’s skyrocketing murders and shootings all the more egregious and outrageous.

Maybe one reason why Chicago’s violence is so out of control is because its leaders, despite all their talk about “gun control,” refuse to control killers.
