Once the final figures are tallied, the average murder rate for America’s 30 largest cities is expected to spike by 14 percent in 2016, TheWashington Postreports, with homicides in Chicago alone accounting for about 44 percent of the increase. The Windy City is currently on track to exceed 750 killings this year—up from 481 last year—and more than 3,400 shootings, making 2016 the deadliest year in Chicago in almost 20 years.
Some other large cities, including Los Angeles and Memphis, have seen their murder rates increase, though none so dramatically as Chicago. Meanwhile, homicides have dropped slightly year-over-year in New York City, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.—which makes Chicago’s skyrocketing murders and shootings all the more egregious and outrageous.
Maybe one reason why Chicago’s violence is so out of control is because its leaders, despite all their talk about “gun control,” refuse to control killers.
Savannah, Ga., Councilman Wants To Destroy Guns
Anti-gun city officials in Savannah, Ga., are seeking permission from the state to destroy seized guns, rather than sell them to law-abiding citizens, according to a report on Foxnews.com.
Apparently, City Councilman John Hall, who is pushing for the destruction, doesn’t understand the difference between law-abiding gun owners and violent criminals. “I favor destroying those weapons. I don’t want them sold to pawn shops or gun dealers,” Hall told Fox News.
Of course, the city doesn’t just sell the guns to anyone on the streets looking for one, as Hall would have you believe. As Jerry Henry, executive director of GeorgiaCarry.org, told FoxNews.com, “The holy grail of gun prohibitionists, the background check, will be employed when a person purchases one of these firearms. There is absolutely no reason to destroy a perfectly good legal item just because the item was stolen and is now in the hands of law enforcement.”
New Jersey Assembly Votes To Continue Endangering Citizens
“These regulations would vastly loosen New Jersey’s appropriately strict gun laws, and allow more people to become eligible for firearm carry permits in our state,” whined Democrat Senate Majority Leader Weinberg.
As if that would be bad. Weinberg and others must not have noticed the rousing success of Right-to-Carry throughout the rest of the nation. Instead, they prefer to keep citizens disarmed and endangered—as they did Carol Bowne when she was murdered in her driveway while waiting for her gun permit application to be approved (action on it was already weeks overdue).
California Antis Badgering School District To Drop Arming Teachers
Last month, a school district in Bakersfield, Calif., voted to allow teachers and staffers who hold concealed-carry permits to bring guns onto campuses. “This is a step toward making our campuses safer for students and staff,” said Phillip Peters of the Kern High School District Board of Trustees.
Now, anti-gun advocacy groups are attacking that decision and are pressuring the district to reverse their ruling. A coalition consisting of groups like Building Healthy Communities and California State University Bakersfield Center for Social Justice ran a full-page ad pleading for a reversal and have started an online petition that bemoans “these dangerous policies which threaten to harm children.”
“It just creates a terrible school climate, you know, where children potentially may be entering classrooms in which their teachers have guns,” said Gerald Cantu of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.
Cantu doesn’t go on to explain, however, how disarming teachers and leaving them defenseless would help children be safer in the face of a madman intent on evil.
Restaurant Owner ‘Heartbroken’ After Shooting Robber To Protect Family
When a man approached Jordan’s BBQ in Zephyrhills, Fla., demanding money, the owner was willing to help. He told the man he could earn some cash by helping unload a truck. However, the stranger was looking for something easier. “He makes a statement give me the F-ing money … ‘I want it all,’” Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco told reporters.
Jordan’s son, Malick, and his brothers noticed something chrome in the man’s pocket and feared the worst. “He’s not going to try four big guys with a knife, so he got to have a gun,” Malick said. That’s when the owner pulled out his own gun and fired in self-defense, telling officers, “I looked at my brother, it was him or us.”
They immediately called 911, but the man died moments later. The owner says their hearts go out to the robber’s family. “We’re gonna reach out … and if we can help them with Christmas, we’ll do that.”
