New Gun-Rights Organization To Debut In Israel

An Israeli Knesset member is preparing to launch a local version of the U.S. National Rifle Association. MK Amir Ohana will debut the initiative today with a caucus aimed at protecting and widening the rights of Israelis to own and carry firearms. The caucus is expected to be attended by several MKs, heads of pro-gun organizations and experts on legislation about the rights of citizens bearing arms in Israel.

The caucus comes on the heels of terror attacks being carried out by “lone wolf” assailants. Currently, it is virtually impossible for anyone who can’t demonstrate a proven reason to carry a gunor to obtain a gun license. The caucus will examine whether, due to security threats facing Israel, the time has come to update the criteria, said Ohana. He noted that having more trained citizens carrying legally owned guns “equals more terror neutralized at the scene, equals fewer lives lost.”
