NRA Sponsors National Hunting & Fishing Day

On May 2, 1972, President Nixon signed the first proclamation of National Hunting and Fishing Day, ushering in an official day of thanks to sportsmen and women. “I urge all citizens to join with outdoor sportsmen in the wise use of our natural resources and in ensuring their proper management for the benefit of future generations,” he wrote.

Now held on the fourth Saturday of September, this year’s celebration will mark the event’s 44th anniversary. The 2016 National Hunting and Fishing Day will take place on Sept. 24 and is sponsored by the NRA.

“The NRA couldn’t be more proud to partner with National Hunting and Fishing Day in their mission to celebrate the outdoor lifestyle and traditions that are enjoyed by millions of Americans, while highlighting the fact that sportsmen and women are essential to conservation and wildlife management efforts,” said Kyle Weaver, Executive Director of NRA General Operations.
