In a story showing CBS News’ anti-gun viewpoint, the network on Sunday intimated that the meaning of the Second Amendment is still “unclear,” suggesting that Antonin Scalia’s replacement will help decide whether it is an individual right.
As pointed out on Breitbart.com, to arrive at such a position, “CBS News does two things: 1. They admit the Supreme Court’s ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) ‘affirmed an individual’s right to keep and bear arms.’ 2. They cast doubt on whether this decision can be the final by intimating that the real meaning of the Second Amendment is still in doubt among law school professors and members of various think tanks.”
In truth, the Supreme Court was very clear in the Heller decision that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right of all Americans—no ifs, ands or buts.
Regardless Of The Question, Gun Control’s The Answer For Hillary
“You don’t make America great by tearing down everything that made America great.” That’s Hillary Clinton, commenting on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Ironically, she’s the same Hillary Clinton who would gladly do just that if given a chance. Her first order of business as president would be to do everything in her power to tear down the U.S. Constitution, starting with the Second Amendment.
She’s so intent on destroying American freedom that gun control is seemingly her answer for everything. At the CNN Democratic Town Hall on Sunday, Clinton was asked about gang violence and what programs she would implement in poverty-stricken communities to decrease that type of violence. Her answer: gun control.
Rather than get to the root of our nation’s massive gang problem, Hillary’s solution is to take away a tool—apparently believing that eliminating guns will eliminate gangs. America, is this who you want for your next president?
Poll: Nearly Half Of Americans Think Gun Violence Will Rise
A new CBS poll shows Americans are generally pessimistic about the trajectory of “gun violence” (better called violent crime) over the next decade. Almost half—47 percent—predict a rise over the next 10 years, while less than one in six believe it will decrease (34 percent expected no change).
Despite historically low rates of violent crime, people paradoxically still believe crime is rising—making the sense of pessimism unsurprising. But that isn’t the only bit of misinformation reflected in the results—while a full 28 percent of Democrats (and a more modest 11 percent of Republicans and Independents) cited “availability of guns/gun laws” as the primary cause of gun violence, data indicates as gun sales have risen and gun laws have become more reasonable, crime has fallen.
The poll results themselves give lie to the second-most-cited cause, “Lack of gun training”—something less than one in five responding gun owners said they lacked.
While the poll results provide few new insights, they do show how important it is that we continue educating those around us.
Georgia Senate Passes Campus Carry Measure
Students and faculty may soon be able to legally carry concealed firearms on public college campuses in Georgia.
Despite a contentious and emotional two-hour floor debate, the Georgia Senate passed HB 859, also known as the “campus carry” bill, by a 37-17 vote Friday. The legislation, now on its way to the desk of Gov. Nathan Deal, would permit carry license holders, who can already carry firearms most places off campus, to carry concealed handguns on public college or university campuses except in dormitories, athletic events, and fraternity or sorority houses.
If signed by the governor, who has previously expressed support for the NRA-backed bill, Georgia would become the ninth state to allow campus carry, alongside nearly two dozen others that allow individual schools to decide.
Oregon Governor Vows Executive Action On Guns
In a post-legislative session press conference on March 3, Democratic Oregon Gov. Kate Brown expressed her disappointment in stalled gun-control legislation and promised to address “gun safety” … using the anti-gunners’ favorite euphemism for “gun control.” She then vowed that she would be “working to develop legislation for the 2017 session and explore what might be achieved using my executive powers.”
Her two-pronged approach: keeping guns out of the hands of “harmful folks” and out of the hands of those with mental health issues. However, when pressed for specifics as to how she would achieve those goals, the head of state seemed at a loss for words and could only muster up an “uh” or “um” as a response.
Brown signed off on anti-gun legislation in May 2015 when she approved SB 941, a bill calling for so-called “universal” background checks and registration.
Armed Citizen Stops Ax-Wielding Attacker At Convenience Store
In the sort of “good guy with a gun” incident that gun-haters like Moms Demand Action head Shannon Watts insist never happen, an armed citizen on Sunday shot and killed a masked man who was attacking a 7-Eleven store clerk with an ax.
According to Fox News reports, a masked man entered the White Center, Wash., store early Sunday and attacked the clerk. That’s when the customer, a 60-year-old concealed-carry permit holder, pulled out his pistol and shot the attacker.
The motive for the attack is unclear, according to local police. “This could have been a lot worse,” King County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cindi West told KCPQ. “The clerk could be the one laying there dead on the floor right now.”
