Indiana Representative Brings Two Pro-Gun Bills To U.S. House

posted on March 29, 2016

U.S. Rep. Todd Young, R-Ind., introduced two measures aimed at protecting Second Amendment rights. The first resolution relates to the vacancy left by Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, stating, “… the Senate should not confirm a nominee to the United States Supreme Court whose professional record or statements display opposition to the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding gun owners, including the fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms …”

President Barack Obama’s current nominee to the nation’s highest court, Judge Merrick Garland, sided with D.C. in cases challenging the District’s handgun ban—which was struck down with the Court’s landmark Heller decision. Garland also voted to uphold the Clinton “assault weapon” ban, among other anti-gun opinions.

Young’s other bill would ensure those in federally-subsidized benefit programs would not lose the right to lawfully carry as a condition of participation, affirming that the Second Amendment safeguards a right for all law-abiding Americans regardless of income or circumstances.
