Vox Flop: Comedian Turns Criminal To Make Anti-Gun Point

posted on April 14, 2016

Comedian Samantha Bee, host of “Full Frontal,” thought it would be humorous to document her experience in trying to obtain an Eddie Eagle costume. Eddie Eagle is the mascot for NRA’s longstanding and highly regarded gun safety program for children.

Bee set out on her mission with the conclusion pre-determined: Demonstrate that getting a gun is easier than getting a costume. Never mind the apples-to-oranges comparison of a civil right vs. a copyright. Or that the NRA sells neither of these items.

Bee was so bent on providing her point that there was no line, or law, she wasn’t willing to cross. Straw purchase? Check. Misrepresent the gun buying process? Check. Create a business under false pretenses? Check. But what’s a felony or two when it comes to comedy, right?

Bee’s mocking of a successful gun safety program—while at the same time promoting a blatantly irresponsible use of firearms—misses the mark entirely.
