A Kansas City woman used her firearm to stop a violent home invasion late Wednesday night.
According to local police, the homeowner heard loud banging on her front door at about 11 p.m. She couldn’t see who was at the door, so she got her gun out just in case. When the man knocked in the door and came after her, the homeowner shot the man, killing him and ending the attack.
The homeowner, who neighbors said walks with a cane, was questioned and later released from custody.
More School Districts Across The U.S. Are Arming Teachers
Across the country, more and more school districts are realizing that NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre was ultimately right: The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. LaPierre was vilified when he first suggested that the only way to protect our schoolchildren was by armed force. But today, that’s exactly what is happening.
The latest school district to come onboard is, surprisingly, out of California. Kingsburg Joint Union High School District passed a measure unanimously approving a policy that allows employees to carry concealed firearms on school grounds. Another Golden State district has had a similar policy in place since 2010.
States including Indiana, Oklahoma, Ohio, Texas and Utah have also either passed or are considering measures to arm school personnel. “I think every teacher should carry,” says Kasey Hansen, a Utah teacher who carries daily. “We are the first line of defense.”
In Debate, Hillary Backs Down On Vermont Gun Lie, Doubles Down On Guns
In the New York Democratic debate Thursday night, Hillary Clinton backpedaled on her claim that Vermont firearms are responsible for New York crime. But she doubled down on blaming the Second Amendment for violence, repeating her claim that “most of the guns that end up committing crimes in New York come from out of state.”
Aside from the fact that guns don’t “commit crimes,” Clinton’s claims have several problems. Most importantly, as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has warned—and CNN finally admitted—“not all firearms used in crime are traced, not all firearms traced are used in crime,” and those that are traced “should not be considered representative of the larger universe of all firearms used by criminals.”
So Clinton’s claim means ... well, not much of anything, except that she wants to use New York crime as an excuse to attack your Second Amendment rights everywhere else.
Former NRA Head Says Clinton Wrong On Guns
A former NRA president says that Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton “always gets it wrong” on the gun issue.
David Keene told Fox Business Network that Clinton’s view on suing gun makers for criminal misuse of their products is just one unreasonable stance. “If it’s a legal product, a firearm is, and it’s produced meeting quality standards and someone misuses it, that’s very different, and Mrs. Clinton doesn’t seem to be able to grasp that difference,” he said.
Keene also said that by targeting legal gun owners, Clinton is picking a fight she might later regret politically. “She’s setting herself up for a very tough race in the fall because there are a lot of millions upon millions of Americans, not all Republicans, not all Conservatives, many Independents, many Democrats, who take the Second Amendment seriously and take candidates who seriously threaten their rights under the Second Amendment as somebody that should not be elected to public office,” he said.
No Surprise—Under Strict Gun Control, Canada’s Crooks Still Get Guns
Despite Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s calls earlier this year for stricter gun control, including new measures to counter gun smuggling from the U.S., a new report suggests that the majority of guns used in crime in Canada actually come from within the country.
According to data from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, a full 61 percent—nearly two-thirds—of guns used in crime in British Columbia were domestically sourced. Guns from the U.S. made up a subset of the remaining 39 percent, which included all smuggled guns. The Indo-Canadian Voice found that these figures apply to the other provinces as well.
While nearly half the crime guns recovered are pistols, law-abiding citizens must go through a complex licensing and training process to obtain one, as handguns are considered “restricted firearms.” It’s already illegal to carry any firearm for self-defense. Why would anyone believe that further restricting the rights of citizens—while criminals continue to obtain firearms despite already-strict laws—is going to help?
Democrats Oppose Mental Health Bill Due To Gun-Rights Provisions
For years, both major political parties have discussed improvements needed in the country’s mental health system. But now Democrats are contesting a Republican reform bill because it also preserves gun rights.
Sen. Jon Cornyn, R-Texas, wrote the legislation to protect Second Amendment rights and combined it with the mental health bill that passed in March.
The Hill reports Democrats oppose language in the bill that forces a hearing in order to “ban someone from buying guns due to mental illness” or that guarantees restoration of a person’s Second Amendment rights once they recover from a temporary mental disorder.
