The City That Makes Gun Bans Famous Breaks Yet Another Gun-Crime Record

Chicago murders continue spiraling out of control, with homicides up 71 percent the first three months of this year, compared to same period last year—which broke records of its own—according to the Chicago Tribune. That’s 135 murders in the first 90 days of this year, the deadliest first quarter for the Windy City since 1999.

Not only are Chicago’s criminals ignoring the laws against murder, they’re also evidently violating Chicago’s gun laws with impunity, since shootings are also up 73 percent year-over-year, from 2015. So far this year, 727 people have been shot in Chicago, for an average of eight per day.

Yet as we’ve reported before here, despite all Chicago’s anti-gun laws and professed outrage over “gun violence,” only a vanishingly tiny fraction of that gun violence is ever even prosecuted, let alone punished in Chicago. So not surprisingly, gun crime explodes. Eureka!
