A package of 10 gun-control bills is threatening to dismantle the Second Amendment-protected rights of California citizens. Dubbed “GunMegeddon,” these proposals were heard before a state Senate Public Safety Committee on Tuesday.
Eight of the bills advanced out of the Democrat-controlled committee including:
Senate Bill 880, which would expand the state’s 1989 “assault weapons” ban to include semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines;
Senate Bill 1446, which would ban all standard-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds;
Senate Bill 894, which would require gun owners to report lost or stolen guns within five days;
Senate Bill 1407, which would require anyone who assembles their own firearms to be licensed with the state; and
Senate Bill 1006, which would enable biased gun violence research to be conducted.
Gun-rights organizations argued that these regulations call for unconstitutional bans and confiscations. They now head to the Senate Appropriations Committee for fiscal consideration. Contact your representative today to oppose these measures!
France Guarantees 20-Minute Police Response To Terror Attacks
“In a crisis our citizens expect faultless collaboration at all times,” minister Bernard Cazeneuve told a news conference.
France’s government was heavily criticized in the wake of the Nov. 13 Paris attacks, where a police response wasn’t ordered for two hours and 40 minutes. Military units close to the music venue did not respond, and the specialist BRI police division didn’t arrive on scene until about 40 minutes after the attack began.
On March 7, Cazeneuve defended the response, saying, “In a context like that, where there are suicide belts and the place may be rigged with explosives, and we don’t know how many terrorists are present or where they are, you can’t intervene until you have the site under control.”
Rapper Shot And Killed In Chicago While Recording Rap Video About Guns
A Chicago rapper was murdered early Tuesday morning on the South Side while recording a rap video about guns.
Damond Dawson, 23, who goes by the nickname “Thugga,” was shot in the head around 2:20 a.m. while recording a number called “Two Techs and a 50 Shot,” and pronounced dead at the scene. A woman and three other men were also shot in the incident, including one man who was hit nine times.
A brand-new 1,200 square-foot, six-lane, indoor shooting range opened in North Carolina last week. The catch? It resides at Smithfield-Selma High School.
Members of the school’s Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program will practice at the facility, which was funded by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the National Shooting Sports Foundation. JROTC cadets will use Daisy pump air rifles, however thorough training will be required before members can actually shoot at the range.
“There’s a marksmanship safety test they have to take, and they have to get a 100 on it,” Commander David Wegman told WRAL-TV in Raleigh. “In addition to that, they have to sign a safety pledge, get permission from home and then finally demonstrate on the range that they know how to handle one of these air rifles safely.”
Currently, four cadets are range-certified, however Wegman hopes every senior will be qualified by next fall.
80-Year-Old With Gun Fights Off Home Invaders
An Ohio senior citizen, who had a gun and wasn’t afraid to use it to protect himself, fought off three home invaders on Tuesday.
According to Fairmont police, a woman came to the man’s door and asked to use the telephone for an emergency. When he opened the door, two men with a gun burst into the home and demanded items from the victim.
The senior citizen shot both men as they tried to rob him, killing one and wounding the other. Police later said the robbers’ weapon was a realistically looking pellet or BB gun. The woman was later apprehended by police.
