Citadel Allows Cadets To Have Guns In Cars

The Citadel in South Carolina revised school regulations last weekend to allow cadets with concealed-carry permits to keep personal firearms locked in their vehicles. The military academy made the move after cadets petitioned for change a month earlier.

While South Carolina law allowed for guns secured in cars on public college and university campus property, the Citadel’s “Blue Book” of conduct conflicted with that law. So cadets including Austin Lee, Kameron Hamlin, Evan Maes and Jake Moore set out to change policy. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley supported the decision.

“It has been a long, hard road, but we are ecstatic about today’s victory,” said Lee, a graduating senior. “We fought this policy because it was the right thing to do, not for personal gain. We hope our dedication to our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms will inspire others in similar positions to do the same.”
