Longmeadow Mass Voters Overwhelmingly Reject Gun Restrictions

posted on May 12, 2016

The votes are in. And three gun-control proposals were roundly rejected yesterday by a majority vote in Longmeadow, Mass. The measures were meant to add further restrictions on firearms owners and businesses, specifically:

  • Fines for anyone carrying a firearm on town-owned property;
  • A ban on so-called “assault” rifles, plus a $300 fine every day the gun was in the city; and
  • A requirement that gun owners write descriptions of each gun in their possession when renewing licenses or applying for FID cards.

In October 2015, more than 950 residents in Longmeadow had a Class A license to carry. Norman Spencer, a resident who voted against the gun restriction proposals, did so because he was worried too many rights were being taken from law-abiding gun owners. “A lot of this gives that away, and gives us nothing. No protection, nothing,” he told WWLP-22News.
