Winchester Rifle Sells For More Than $1.2 Million

Do you own a treasured firearm that you believe to be very valuable? Perhaps it’s not worth quite as much as a Winchester rifle that recently sold at auction for a new-world record price.

The Winchester Model 1886 Sporting Rifle (Serial Number 1), once a gift from one Congressional Medal of Honor Awardee to another, saw combat in the Indian Wars, the Spanish American War and the Philippine American War. Last month, it sold at auction for $1.26 million.

“Other guns have sold higher as a pair, but no other single firearm surpasses this new world record,” said Kevin Hogan, president of Rock Island Auction Company. “It was an honor to be entrusted with an American treasure.”
