No longer a surprise: A man with a concealed handgun stops an intended robbery once again. And the legally armed citizen is safe.
A licensed carrier in Beaumont, Texas, shot one of two men trying to rob him at gunpoint last Thursday night. Police arrived to find the suspect lying in the parking lot wounded by the gunshot. The victim told police he was attacked by two men, one armed and with a bandana covering his face. The victim fired several rounds, injuring the suspect while the second assailant ran away.
The attacker who had been shot was later identified as Adrian Glenn, 26, from the Beaumont area. The local police were quickly granted a warrant for his arrest on the charge of aggravated robbery. Now the detectives are working on identifying the other robbery suspect.
Obama And Clinton: One Gun-Banner Endorses Another
President Barack Obama made it official Thursday: He formally endorsed Hillary Clinton for president of the United States. “I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office,” he enthusiastically stated in a video statement.
Yet just eight years ago, the president was singing a different tune. His campaign ads at the time declared that Clinton is “what’s wrong with politics today” and warned that she will “say anything” to get elected “and change nothing.” Obama concluded that it was time to “turn the page.”
His new-and-improved 2016 message: “I know how hard this job can be, that’s why I know Hillary will be so good at it.” In response to his endorsement, the Republican National Committee noted that, “Obama has officially endorsed Hillary Clinton to run for his third term.” And Donald Trump tweeted that the president “wants four more years of Obama—but nobody else does!”
N.C. Gun Dealer Gets Bank To Release “Choke” Hold
Fox News reports that a North Carolina gun dealer, once denied banking services because of the Obama administration’s Operation Choke Point, has won his battle with HomeTrust Bank.
In 2013, HomeTrust told Luke Lichterman of HuntingAndDefense.com that Choke Point barred them from serving a “risky” business. However, Lichterman’s business was completely above-board: “I sell firearms, which is constitutionally protected, and am licensed by the federal government to sell firearms.”
After several meetings and pressure from gun-rights groups, HomeTrust has now relented and agreed to process digital payments for his business. “The only reason Luke Lichterman was able to get his account back was because he went public with his story,” said Kelsey Harkness, who first revealed Operation Choke Point writing for The Daily Signal. “It makes you wonder how many other innocent business owners are being victimized by this secretive government program without even knowing it.”
Dem Platform Committee Member Says No One Should Have Guns
While presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton likes to say she doesn’t want to take guns from law-abiding citizens, some of those charged with crafting the Democratic Party platform apparently have a different idea.
In a response to a question on Wednesday at a planning event, Bonnie Schaefer, one member of the 15-member Platform Drafting Committee, said, “I do believe that you’re absolutely correct—not just keeping the guns out of mentally ill people and criminals, but I really don’t personally think anyone should have a gun. I mean, that’s just my own philosophy. Nothing is ever solved when you have a gun in your hand except the worst possible scenario.”
Like her boss, Clinton, Schaefer apparently ignores the thousands of law-abiding, armed Americans who have saved their lives and the lives of others with firearms. Perhaps she should spend a little time reading our “Armed Citizen” section before popping off again.
“Fed Up” Cover-Up Further Taints Couric’s Credibility
On Wednesday, the Washington Free Beaconcited two anonymous sources interviewed in Katie Couric and Stephanie Soechtig’s first “documentary” film collaboration, 2014’s “Fed Up.” The two sources claimed that, after giving interviews that disagreed with the film’s basic premise, both of their interviews were deceptively edited to make them appear foolish.
While neither source had definitive proof to back up their assertions, what happened next told us everything we needed to know about whether their claims were substantiated. By the next day, the Weinstein Company— distributor of “Fed Up”—had contacted YouTube and ordered them to remove the two interviews. Within hours, the videos had disappeared, replaced by a notice that they were taken down due to “a copyright claim by Weinstein.”
The Free Beacon has since reported it is “requesting that the videos be reinstated on fair use grounds since the videos are the subject of a news report,” and has uploaded the videos to Vimeo. So far, the Weinstein Company has refused requests for comment.
European Union Moves To Restrict Semi-Auto Firearms, Some Member Nations Resist
Interior ministers of the European Union agreed Friday to seek tighter restrictions on civilian access to semi-automatic and deactivated firearms in the 28-member nations of the EU, the EU Observerreports. Their proposals still need to be ratified by the European Parliament before becoming law.
The restrictions originally advanced by the European Commission were tempered by some member nations, including the Czech Republic, which sought less-restrictive laws, and Finland, which has civilian militias to help maintain the peace. In addition, Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU but which cooperates with it on security, also preferred to preserve citizens’ access to firearms.
Although the restrictions are apparently in response to recent terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels, ministers didn’t explain how restricting lawful citizens’ access to semi-automatic firearms could possibly affect terrorists who break every law, including murder, and who illegally traffic in weapons ranging from machine guns to high explosives.
