NRA Grant Provides 10 New Patrol Rifles To Small-Town Police Department

posted on June 4, 2016

Thanks to a grant from The NRA Foundation, the Walterboro, S.C., police department was recently able to purchase 10 new patrol rifles.

The NRA Foundation, whose funding comes largely from Friends of NRA fundraising events, has awarded more than 35,000 grants totaling more than $267 million. Because law enforcement agencies are eligible to receive the grants, in October 2015, Walterboro—a city of about 5,250—submitted a funding request for some new patrol rifles to go in the department’s cruisers.

Recently Walterboro PD was notified that they would receive not only a grant for the full cost of 10 new AR-15 rifles, but that it would also cover the cost of slings, scopes and hard carrying cases to go with them.

“This grant from the NRA allowed us to purchase firearms … that otherwise would not have been possible,” Police Chief Wade Marvin said. “We are very appreciative to the local NRA chapter for making this grant possible.”
