Bloomberg Backs More Anti-Gun Messaging In Maine

A restrictive gun-control measure on Maine’s November ballot is getting quite a boost from the former mayor of New York City. A Michael Bloomberg not-for-profit organization is contributing more than $3 million to two anti-gun groups in The Pine Tree State.

This fall, Maine citizens will vote on an initiative requiring background checks on all gun transfers. Federal law already requires background checks for gun sales by licensed dealers.

Since August, Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety has given Maine Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense and Mainers for Responsible Gun Ownership more than $3 million in donations. Those two groups have recently merged into the grossly misnamed organization Mainers for Responsible Gun Ownership, and have reportedly put down $1.4 million to buy television time to battle against law-abiding gun owners.
