San Antonio Men Fight Off Armed Robber

posted on July 12, 2016

While the police shootings in Dallas have increased calls for gun control from anti-gun groups and gun-ban politicians like President Barack Obama, over the weekend two Texas men thwarted a robbery attempt using a legally owned firearm.

San Antonio Police Sgt. Edward Rodriguez told MySA.com that the two roommates were in their apartment Sunday night when an armed man burst into the room demanding their belongings. One of the roommates tackled the suspect to the ground, and was shot during the ensuing struggle. The other roommate retrieved his own gun and shot at the suspect, who escaped out the back door and jumped the fence—dropping his gun in the process.

Rodriguez said that the suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene, while a man matching the robber’s identity was taken to a nearby hospital with several gunshot wounds. The injured roommate was also taken to the hospital with minor wounds. No charges were filed against the second roommate, who shot the suspect in self-defense.
