Louisiana Sheriff Says Cop Murders Not A Gun Issue

posted on July 19, 2016

As gun-banners continue to call for more restrictive gun-control laws in the wake of vicious and deadly attacks on law enforcement officers in a number of states, one Louisiana sheriff sees the situation differently.

Following the murder of three Baton Rouge police officers on Sunday, East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said he doesn’t believe the attack there was the result of a “gun issue.”

“With God’s help, we will get through this,” Gautreaux said. “To me this is not so much about gun control as it is about what’s in men’s hearts. And until we come together as a nation, as a people, to heal as a people. If we don’t do that and this madness continues, we will surely perish as a people.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to officers and their families in Dallas, Baton Rouge and everywhere our police officers selflessly patrol to keep the rest of us safe.
