Munich Witness Could Have Stopped Massacre—If He Had A Gun

posted on July 28, 2016

Last week’s Munich mall massacre, where a crazed man shot and killed nine shoppers, proved once again that gun laws don’t stop murderers, but do stop citizens who could have fought back in such attacks.

A man who lived near the mall says he saw the man with the gun shooting. And when the attacker stopped to reload, the man threw a beer bottle at him—the only weapon he had.

“All I had was a beer bottle to throw at him,” said Thomas Salbey. “If I had a gun, I would have shot him. I’d have shot him in the head.”

Instead, Germany’s tough gun laws made it highly unlikely that any law-abiding citizens, including Salbey, would be able to use a firearm to stop the attack and save lives. So much for “effective” gun control.
