Clinton Representative Calls "Assault Weapons" Ban Not Worth The “Juice”

posted on July 6, 2016

Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., one of last week’s Democratic House sitters for gun control, appeared on behalf of Hillary Clinton last week to talk about conservation, but disagreed with her support for a renewed “assault weapons” ban.

Appearing at the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership in Fort Collins, Colo., Thompson said, “She has gone further than I have gone; she has called for an assault weapons ban … There are over 10 million of them in civilian hands in the Unites States of America; you’re not getting that toothpaste back in the tube. And personally, I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze.”

Thompson also said California’s proposed initiative imposing draconian regulation on ammunition, which would require licensing of buyers and sellers, background checks and limits on who can purchase ammo for young shooters, would “have a chilling effect on a sport that I think is incredibly important … No kids coming into the sport, no hunting, no habitat.”
